NEW BLOG POST: Save the West Creek Wetlands

Hi, I’m Cheryl!

I’m a molecular biologist, a mother and an avid coffee drinker who loves my community of Langley. As a past MLA candidate for the B.C. Greens, I’m pushing our representatives to make evidence-based decisions that will result in a fair economy, a healthy community, and a promising future for everyone who calls Langley home.

Will you join me?

It is clear that using more clean and renewable energy day-to-day will result in a healthier community in Langley and a more fair economy that benefits everyone in B.C.

This work is both necessary and possible.

It’s time to accelerate the CleanBC plan in order to employ skilled workers, leverage our renewable natural resources and grow our technology and manufacturing sectors.

It’s time to enable and incentivize young people, families and businesses to make sustainable choices.

It’s time to adopt a progressive tax system to ensure everyone is taxed fairly, that our social safety net is secure, and that extractive industries are not subsidized, but instead are made to pay for their devastating environmental impacts.

Petition for Supportive Housing

I helped organize for a provincially-funded supportive housing project in Langley, initiating a petition in favour of the project which garnered media attention and afforded me the opportunity to speak with Steele and Drex about the issue.

Pressuring Council for a Climate Emergency.

I collaborated with Township Councillor Petrina Arnason to draft a climate emergency motion, which was brought forward to a meeting of council in April of 2019 at which I presented as a delegation. In July of 2019, the Langley Township Council finally acknowledged the truth after sustained pressure, including regular protests outside the Township Civic Facility.

Pushing for Emissions Targets.

I pushed Council for the bold action we need to avert catastrophic outcomes. After calling on Council to adopt science-based emissions targets, Council unanimously agreed to adopt those targets and develop a carbon budget to meet them.

Advocating for Action.

I continue to follow and give regular updates on climate action progress in Langley. I know that financial investment in climate action now will pay off many times over in the future.

It’s time for a new kind of politics.
